Toyota GR 86 Gets an Upgrade to Celebrate the 40th Anniversary of AE86

In a celebration of the 40th anniversary of the iconic AE86, Toyota GAZOO Racing (TGR) has unveiled improvements to its rear-wheel-drive sports car, the “GR 86.” To mark this special occasion, Toyota is also releasing a limited-edition model, the “RZ 40th Anniversary Limited,” with only 200 units available.
The upgraded GR 86 now comes standard with the “EyeSight” driving assistance system for manual transmission variants. These improvements enhance both driving performance and convenience. The “RZ 40th Anniversary Limited” is a special edition car created to honor the legacy of the AE86 Toyota Corolla Levin and Sprinter Trueno, which were introduced in 1983 and served as the inspiration for the GR 86’s name.
Among the notable improvements is the addition of the “EyeSight” system, featuring collision damage mitigation braking, now standard on manual transmission models. Safety enhancements also include a “blind spot monitor” on the RZ grade and as a new option for the SZ grade. The optimization of VSC (Stationary Skid Prevention System) control and changes to the electronic throttle’s output characteristics further enhance the vehicle’s driving performance and controllability.
The special edition “40th Anniversary Limited” model is available in two exterior colors: “Spark Red” and “Crystal White Pearl,” with exclusive body side decals reminiscent of the iconic AE86 color schemes. It features black and red interior elements, unique logos, and special decorations. Additionally, it offers “Brembo ventilated disc brakes” and Sachs shock absorbers, enhancing its performance attributes.
These upgrades and special edition models pay tribute to the legendary AE86 while adding modern enhancements to Toyota’s GR 86, ensuring it continues to capture the spirit of performance and excitement for motoring enthusiasts.
